Build stronger systems for moving capital into communities
Originally from the Dominican Republic and bilingual in English and Spanish, Frank brings a cross-cultural perspective to his work with community institutions, entrepreneurs, and programs serving diverse populations.
Frank’s career has given him a view of both sides of the capital interface: the institution that must make a disciplined decision and the business that must become understandable enough for that decision to be made well.
- What information supports a sound credit or program decision?
- Where does work slow down or lose accountability?
- Can leadership trust the portfolio and reporting view?
- What support helps a business become more organized and assessable?
- How can technology improve the work without obscuring judgment or responsibility?
Working across institutional credit, CDFI lending, entrepreneur support, and data systems taught Frank that access to capital is rarely only a capital problem. Credit decisions depend on information. Programs depend on workflows. Portfolio visibility depends on data discipline. Businesses often need practical support before capital can do what everyone hopes it will do.
RealTree grew from seeing those pieces repeatedly treated as separate problems when, operationally, they are connected.
Experience across the capital system
Institutional credit
Frank built his institutional credit foundation underwriting commercial real estate at Wells Fargo from 2012 to 2016, evaluating repayment capacity, collateral, structure, operating performance, documentation, and downside risk across complex transactions.
He wrote credit memoranda, communicated recommendations to credit officers and relationship teams, and built a visual database and printable review workbook for a senior-housing loan portfolio covering independent living, assisted living, and memory care properties. The work combined credit judgment with practical tools for portfolio review.
CDFI leadership, strategy, and community initiatives
At Self-Help, Frank’s work expanded from commercial lending portfolio risk into an executive-staff role as Special Assistant to the President & CFO of Self-Help Credit Union. His tenure from September 2016 through June 2019 connected credit discipline with institutional strategy, member-focused programs, community partnerships, and cross-functional implementation.
He joined as a Commercial Lending Portfolio Risk Analyst, working on new originations, credit and collateral reviews, and ongoing asset management across multifamily, mixed-use, hotel, and office loans. The President subsequently promoted him to support complex projects spanning commercial, consumer, and mortgage lending, branch operations, compliance, facilities, training, and electronic services.
As a liaison and advisor to the President & CFO, executive staff, and other senior leaders, his work included:
Community programs and partnerships
Contributed to an immigration-bond loan program, a retirement-savings pilot in collaboration with Duke University’s Common Cents Lab and the Center for Advanced Hindsight, and children’s savings and financial-capability initiatives. These included TigersSave, with EDCI, funding partners, Durham civic leadership, and Y.E. Smith Elementary School.
Products, markets, and growth
Provided data and market analysis for consumer auto-loan repricing, loan-portfolio acquisition opportunities, and potential branch acquisitions, and participated in business-checking product-design workshops.
Branch intelligence and operating systems
Conceptualized and advocated for an Excel-and-SharePoint branch-management dashboard to connect branch operations, profitability, and goal tracking across the credit union’s branch network.
Leadership and strategic planning
Organized a two-day retreat for 48 branch leaders and a strategic-planning retreat involving leaders from Self-Help’s two credit unions. He chaired weekly team-leader meetings and monthly leadership meetings supporting shared priorities, annual goals, and operating decisions.
Executive decision support
Directed analysis, visualizations, and presentations on membership, CDFI financial performance, commercial lending opportunities, economic trends, and diversity and equity initiatives to inform decisions across divisions.
This experience informs RealTree’s work with CDFI leaders: understanding how a new initiative fits the institution’s mission, products, partnerships, operating capacity, and information needs.
Small-business capital, Kiva, and community outreach
At Carolina Community Impact, Frank served as Capital Access Manager for the launch of the Central Carolina Kiva Hub and Matching Loan Fund. He brought a strong personal commitment to helping entrepreneurs understand and navigate community-backed financing.
His work combined Kiva program outreach, presentations to large audiences, business-finance education, and technical-assistance sessions with small-business owners. Working with Small Business Center directors across central North Carolina, he helped connect entrepreneurs with preparation, guidance, and the Kiva loan process.
He also worked with the North Carolina Secretary of State’s office in support of Rural RISE NC, connecting rural entrepreneurs with business resources. These experiences brought together public agencies, local business-support organizations, community lenders, and entrepreneurs around practical access to capital.
Data, decision systems, and implementation
At Credit Suisse, Frank served as a senior business analyst on the Global Markets Data Architecture Team within the Chief Data Office. He helped lead the design of templates and workflows, and contributed to early-stage planning, for the CUSO data-traceability initiative. His work included Excel-based analysis tools, Visio workflow diagrams, training materials, and support for data lineage, ownership attestation, and governance in Collibra. He worked across business, technology, finance, risk, compliance, and operations teams to document how critical data moved from trading applications into reporting and decision processes.
Across that work and later lending initiatives, he translated operational and reporting needs into clearer workflows, data definitions, dashboard requirements, and implementation priorities. His approach begins with the decision and the people responsible for it—not with a predetermined software recommendation.
Understanding the borrower side of the system
Frank’s community-finance work has included direct education, coaching, and program design for small-business owners. Across North Carolina Small Business Center programs, he has delivered 30+ instructional sessions on small-business systems, practical AI, and operating readiness.
The work has focused on practical readiness: organizing business and financial information, clarifying capital needs, strengthening operating systems, improving customer follow-up, and using technology—including AI—responsibly to reduce administrative friction.
That borrower-facing experience informs RealTree’s institutional work. A workflow that looks logical on paper must also make sense to the business owner being asked to navigate it.

Why Frank built RealTree
Across institutional credit, CDFI lending, entrepreneur programs, and advisory work, Frank repeatedly encountered the same problem: important parts of the capital process were managed separately even though their outcomes depended on one another.
Borrower readiness affected underwriting. Underwriting affected portfolio quality. Portfolio visibility depended on data. Reporting depended on definitions and ownership. Technology only helped when those operating questions were already clear.
RealTree was built to work at those intersections.
Much of Frank’s work involves translating across functions that depend on one another but do not always speak the same operational language—from borrower and lender to program and credit, executive and technical team, mission and risk discipline.
The objective is simple: help teams understand the operating reality, make better decisions, and leave with something they can actually implement.
Capital • Clarity • Community
Capital
Credit quality, capital readiness, lending programs, and the systems used to prepare, deploy, and monitor financing.
Clarity
Workflows, underwriting information, portfolio views, data definitions, and reporting practices that make decisions more reliable.
Community
Entrepreneurs, institutions, and places—and the education and accountability required to make access durable.
Capital without clarity produces avoidable risk. Clarity without community can become detached from the people the institution exists to serve. Community without disciplined systems can leave good intentions difficult to sustain.
How Frank works
Start with reality
Understand the current workflow, systems, definitions, staff responsibilities, and workarounds before recommending change.
Clarify the decision
Identify what the team needs to decide, what information is missing, and what standard the answer must meet.
Separate process from technology
Distinguish policy, ownership, training, data, workflow, and technology problems before prescribing tools.
Leave something usable
Translate findings into requirements, maps, decision structures, workbooks, and implementation priorities the team can continue using.
RealTree maintains clear boundaries around confidentiality, credit authority, participant consent, professional scope, and evidence-based claims.
